CORE CURRICULUM

St. Aloysius School offers a rigorous curriculum that focuses on developing the whole child.  Curriculum content is based on The Core Knowledge Sequence and meets state, national, and diocesan standards.  The CK Sequence provides a detailed outline of specific content to be taught in language arts, history, geography, mathematics, science, and the fine arts. By fostering academic excellence and higher literacy, Core Knowledge provides a solid, specific, shared core curriculum in order to help children establish a strong foundation of knowledge. Core Knowledge is a guide to coherent content from grade to grade, designed to encourage steady academic progress as children build their knowledge and skills from one year to the next.

To support the rich content provided by the CK sequence, teachers use a variety of innovative teaching strategies and assessment methods to promote problem solving, critical thinking, collaboration, and effective communication. Technology is used throughout the curriculum to enhance instruction and ensure full integration of 21st century skills. The school’s STREAM lab allows students to apply technology, science, engineering, design, and math concepts to all subject areas. Data from ACT Aspire scores, ACRE scores, and classroom assessments is reviewed annually and drives school goals and instructional practices.

Spiritual formation is an essential part of the school culture and educational framework.  Catholic values and principles are woven throughout all subject areas and all aspects of campus life. Students use their faith as a lens through which they view historic events, scientific discoveries, current events, and interactions with each other. As part of their faith formation, students attend religion class and participate in liturgical celebrations, reconciliation, retreats, and service projects. Students live out their faith through demonstrating Christian character and service to others.

The school is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and was designated as a National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence in 2015.
